Most people prefer to have a small gadget that they can easily bring anywhere. Tech buyers are looking for a powerful and affordable mobile device. Appearance is also one of the considerations. It should have the capacity to detach and easily attach to another gadget.
DJI Osmo series offers the latest mobile gadget – the Osmo Pocket.
What inside the Osmo Pocket?
DJI Osmo pocket is the most advanced technology that will boost the performance of the DJI drone. It can compete with other mobile gadgets like GoPros and other smartphones. It has the stabilizer for the drone-style camera to shoot a super smooth video in motion.
Yes, you read it right. The DJI Osmo pocket has no limitations in capturing beautiful moments. Taking pictures and videos in high quality is the job of Osmo Pocket. Unlike drones, DJI Cosmo Pocket doesn’t fly on its own, but it is not like other smartphones and GoPros.
The right choice of the gadget in taking selfies and vlogging is the DJI Osmo Pocket. This mobile gadget is a tri-axis device that tilt and pan and pitch along with the person who is shooting video, which keeps the captured footage relatively stable and free of shakes. It has excellent grip and needs a small place in your luggage or handbags when you need to carry outside.
How to use it?
Let us set aside the ideas that gadgets are hard to learn and complicated to use.
DJI Osmo lines are not as complicated as it seems. Mobile users can quickly adapt to this gadget because it supports existing smartphones previously. Also, DJI provides an easy-to-follow manual in every product they introduce in the market.
The feeling of holding the DJI Osmo Pocket is just like carrying a pen that measures about 4.8 inches tall and weighs four ounces. Projecting from the stick is a slim, curved neck and a kind of mini-robot head that houses a 1 and 2/3-inch sensor. The camera of the Osmo Pocket can capture up to 12 MP. The video that it can record has a full cinematic 4K quality, with a frame rate of up to 60 frames per second.
Attaching a smartphone in DJI Osmo Pocket is not that hard. By using the Lightning or USB-C port, smartphones can be connected to Osmo Pocket directly. If successfully attached, you can use the DJI’s Mimo as a live viewfinder. DJI’s Mimo application has features for extra controls that you can use when necessary.
DJI Osmo Pocket has a small LCD touchscreen. Below the LCD screen, there are two buttons dedicated to powering on and off. You can use the first button for toggling through specific functions like three presses on the plain button puts it into selfie mode. The second button is used for recording or shooting.
The USB-C port at the bottom of the Osmo Pocket can be used for charging. At the side of the gadget, there is a slot for microSD. It is very significant during capturing images and shooting videos. The Osmo Pocket can record a full HD video for a couple of hours.
How much it costs?
DJI Osmo Pocket is a good buy for a handy gadget. At $349, it can support everything you need without using big cameras and smartphones that has many limitations, especially in recording full HD videos. You can still add some accessories to experience the full performance of DJI Osmo Pocket.
Additional Upgrades
LCD screen
The Osmo Pocket’s LCD screen and built-in specifications are very intuitive. You can access all the settings by swiping up and down. When you swipe down, you will enable the settings with high definition video mode and Glamour still photo mode. When swiping up, the parameters can adjust the gimbal’s preferences of the Osmo Pocket in two ways – the ‘Follow’ mode or FPV mode.
This part of the DJI Osmo Pocket is exciting and thrilling. The ‘Follow’ mode enables the pocket to follow the subject you’re capturing. While in this mode, you just swipe to the side to switch from Photo to Video capture, and vice versa. A time-lapse or slow motion can be programmed in DJI Osmo Pocket.
The ‘Follow’ Mode is unlike the ‘Active Track’ features of the previous DJI Osmo series. The difference between the two functions is significant. With Active Track, it enables the Osmo Pocket to locks on a subject in the frame and will follow them as they move around. In the Follow mode of Osmo Pocket, it has face tracking, meaning it can track head movements. Isn’t that amazing?
Your movement in DJI Osmo Pocket will not be limited. The face tracking can capture all your progress in all angles. Also, vloggers can achieve anything with proper actions and in cinematic quality because of the 4K fps video.
However, there is a bit setback in taking videos in 4k mode. It gets toasty, and the battery quickly drains when using the 4K method. Another limitation for the Osmo Pocket is the capability to be used in all weather conditions. It lacks waterproofing. But if you genuinely want to use DJI Osmo while video shooting or capturing images outside, you need to use the Osmo Mobile 2.
Wind Stabilizer
DJI Osmo Pocket is stable even during a windy day. Like other gadgets, smartphones and GoPros have setbacks in this kind of weather. The results of the images captured during this kind of weather are blown out and distorted. It can be remedied somehow by using DJI Mimo app. This application offers a variety of manual controls.
Indeed, the DJI Mimo features are exceptional if used with Osmo Pocket. However, it has some more room for upgrades. The thumbnails for the images and videos the smartphone’s camera roll appeared out of order in the Mimo app. This is annoying in selecting and importing clips. The Mimo app has no selections whether to compress it or let it as clips in your smartphone. It just merely compresses every clip before you could import and edit them within the app. It is ridiculous. Also, connecting the wireless module, which offers options for both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, required a couple of app restarts before the Pocket and my smartphone appeared to want to talk to one another.
Accessories
Recorded video has all kind of noises, and you can actually hear the sound of the wind. You can avoid it if you use an external mic rather than the built-in mic of the Osmo Pocket. However, to use an external mic, you need to have a USB-C adapter. Also, this gadget does not support the live streaming of video. It may be a problem for bloggers and social media enthusiasts.
All the accessories should be compatible for optimal function of your DJI Osmo Pocket.
There are accessories for your DJI Osmo Pocket that is available in the market. The wireless module and the external controller wheel costs the same at about $59. Another accessory you want to consider is the third-party waterproof case.
What do we say?
The DJI Osmo Pocket needs more upgrades and modifications. Though, it already gives the smartphone users and GoPros fans to have another option. This gadget is the real deal if you want to shoot on your own. The Osmo Pocket is not only for professional. But everyone can use it who wants to have fun and experiment on some ideas. It enables you to discover more techniques and strategies to capture everything you want and records every momentous life events of yours.
